Really slick design - I have a bug and love it...one question though. Why is it an automatic?

That's a good question, grebo.
I can think of a couple of reasons why that wouldn't matter, though. First, given his emphasis on the afterburner, this whole deal may be more for show than for go.
And second, when you fire off that jet engine you probably want the transmission to be in neutral anyway. You might do a number on the torque converter (or clutch) otherwise.
