Two kinds of people

Americans fall into two distinct categories today: those who remember how devastating the policies of Jimmy Carter were, and those who are about to find out. - Ron Hart
Based on this news, I think he's right:
Carter voices confidence in Obama stimulus plan

ATLANTA (AP) — Former President Jimmy Carter has voiced support for President Barack Obama's plan to stimulate the economy.

Carter says he has "full confidence" in Obama's proposal and expects it will take about six months for the economy to begin improving.

I love Ron Hart's columns! He is in our paper and is well followed. Great Carter line.

What I remember is the fall-out from the dismal policies of the 70s: first Nixon, then Ford & finally Carter - a triple whammy, IMO. ("Whip Inflation Now" - what a moronic idea.)

We bought a house in early 1984 and were putting 20% down. Plus we had stock market holdings worth half the price of the house. But the best interest rate we could get was 13.5% - on a 1-year-adjustable loan. That's a tough credit market.

Luckily, rates were starting to fall pretty quickly and we re-financed out of the 13.5% loan before it adjusted. Otherwise we might still be paying for that house.
