Who in the world asks for one of these? That's scary. This sign was in an Ace Hardware store.

To answer your question "who asks for these?", anyone experiencing a power outage and trying to connect a temporary generator to their house electrical system. While it does work, it should only be attempted by someone who completely understands how to isolate their house from the main power grid, and further, what the maximum power draw might be. Otherwise, the store is correct - such cords in the hands of an amateur are a great way to get hurt and burn your house down.

Good point: you could connect a generator to your house wiring that way. But you'd want to pick a circuit with a BIG breaker rating if you were planning to energize the whole breaker panel by back-feeding thru a single circuit.
What I read into that photo was that the store got these requests at this time of year from people wanting to connect strings of lights together. That'd be a great way to "light things up", wouldn't it?
Thanks for reading.
