Tsunami dog goes home
A dog which has been rescued at sea off the coast of Kesennuma, Japan, was reunited with the owner on Monday more than three weeks after being washed away by the killer tsunami triggered by the March 11 earthquake. Japanese broadcaster NTV aired images of the reunion with the woman hugging Ban and the dog warmly wagging her tail. The dog was rescued on Friday after being found drifting on a roof.

Nokopo joey
Here's a double-barreled dose of cute: two tree kangaroos in one picture, courtesy of the Post-Dispatch.
Baby kangaroo joey peeks out of mother's pouch at St. Louis ZooST. LOUIS -- She was born the size of a lima bean six months ago.
Now the little kangaroo joey is about the size of a small cat -- and starting to make herself a little more visible at the St. Louis Zoo.
The Zoo issued a press release Friday to gush about Nokopo, a female Matschie's tree kangaroo joey.
Nokopo, or "Noko" for short, has begun poking her head out from within her mother's pouch at the Emerson Children's Zoo at the Saint Louis Zoo.

The downtown duck hero
Carol sends a batch of photos of a mallard duck who built a nest on a second storey ledge in downtown Spokane and hatched her brood there. The link goes to a story -- with the photos in a slideshow -- about a man named Joel Armstrong who took them all under his wing and helped Mama Mallard get her ducklings to the Spokane river.
Downtown Duck HeroOn Tuesday, May 20, a Spokane man who works downtown as a loan officer at a local bank, became a hero in the eyes of his sister and many of his co-workers. What follows is his story, as told by his sister, Candace Mumm.

GEORGE the hedgehog looks more like a porky-pine after scoffing his way to FOUR times the average size.He was handed to a wildlife sanctuary in Leatherhead, Surrey, by householders worried he must have an illness.
In fact George, who weighs nearly five pounds and measures more than 31 inches around, was just fat.
Staff are putting him on a six-month diet.
