Dancing in the streets
Some Israeli Defense Force soldiers in Hebron:
"Tik Tok" Soldiers Ordered to Make Anti-Dancing VideoThe Israeli soldiers who were admonished this week for performing a dance routine to Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" in the streets on Hebron have finally received their punishment: They are to create an educational video instructing their compatriots not to dance.
The video, which became a viral sensation this week — even after if was taken down by the original uploader and then uploaded again — received mixed reactions from bloggers and press. Some found the image of the six soldiers decked out in IDF uniforms and military gear hilarious, others, disrespectful. The IDF, however, was less nebulous about its feelings.

Dyson Air Multiplier - no blades, no buffetingThe Dyson Air Multiplierâ„¢ fan works very differently to conventional fans. It uses Air Multiplierâ„¢ technology to draw in air and amplify it 15 times, producing an uninterrupted stream of smooth air. With no blades or grill, it's safe, easy to clean and doesn't cause unpleasant buffeting.

The Falcon has flown
I'm a little late with this. Take-off was last Friday afternoon.
Launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 private rocket is a successThe Falcon 9, the first of a new generation of private rockets that could one day make space travel commonplace, successfully launched from Cape Canaveral on Friday.
The 180-foot rocket put a model of its Dragon capsule into orbit about 160 miles up, setting the stage for possible flights to the international space station early next year. The flight came after an initial abort right at ignition.

Making the Model T
The $950 Model T price he mentions would be $22,401 in 2009 dollars. Today, MSRP for a Ford Fiesta is $13,300 - with an electric starter, air bags and a wide selection of colors. But of course it won't handle bad roads as well as a Model T.
The $5 daily wage would be an daily wage of $118 in 2009 dollars - or an annual wage of $29,500. I think most auto workers are doing better than that today (the ones still working, that is).

A really interesting prototype
...though maybe you need to be a bit of a gearhead to appreciate it.
Is Steve Durnin's D-Drive the holy grail of infinitely variable transmissions?Ready for a bit of a mental mechanical challenge? Try your hand at understanding how the D-Drive works. Steve Durnin's ingenious new gearbox design is infinitely variable - that is, with your motor running at a constant speed, the D-Drive transmission can smoothly transition from top gear all the way through neutral and into reverse. It doesn't need a clutch, it doesn't use any friction drive components, and the power is always transmitted through strong, reliable gear teeth.

And speaking of Google's logo
Google Logo Constructed Out of 884 PhotosA group of employees at Google's offices in London have taken their time (working at Google really seems the best job in the world when you've got time for stunts like this) to create a Google logo out of 884 individually printed 4-inch by 6-inch photographs.
The result is this amazing time-lapse video that documents the creation of the logo, which took about five and a half hours to create. A camera took a shot every seven seconds and the entire thing has been compressed into less than a minute and a half for your convenience. Enjoy.

The yo-yo guy
To really appreciate this guy, visit the link and check out the other two videos.
Fake Yo-Yo Trickster Fools Every TV Station EverywhereA strange, strange man has been showing up on morning shows throughout the Midwest, claiming to be a yo-yo trick champion. He is not. He is actually terrible at yo-yo. Yet he keeps getting on the air.
Little is known about "K-Strass," who goes by Kenny Strasser, or sometimes Karl Strassburg. He claims to be from Wisconsin (except when he doesn't). He claims to be from a broken home, with his own addiction issues (except when he isn't).
All we know is that K-Strass has shown up on television six times in the past month, showing off his yo-yo "skills" and generally embarrassing the hosts.

Hydraulic power
An interesting publicity stunt for Liebherr. The crowd really seems to enjoy it.
When I lived in Tucson, I worked with a guy named Frank who was an ASU alumnus. Frank was an electrical engineer and he told me a funny story about the hydraulics course all engineering students at ASU were required to take. Naturally, the EE's couldn't have cared less about hydraulics and their attitude made the professor defensive. One day the prof told them, "You may not believe it, but anything you can do with electricity, I can do with hydraulic circuits."
Then some wise guy in the class piped up, "Yeah. But a hydraulic TV's awfully noisy."

Nice shot
This reminds me of my freshman chemistry course at Illinois. One day, a student was heckling the T.A. while the T.A. was writing on the blackboard. The T.A., a young guy in his first year of grad school, responded by throwing a piece of chalk at the heckler. That didn't turn out very well because the heckler ducked and the chalk hit the woman sitting behind him. It hit her in the face and evidently with some force because she cried out in pain. That was pretty much the end of class for that day.

Fully sick
The story:
On the 9th Dec, just before Christmas and the festive season, I was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and placed into a quarantined room in Sydney Hospital. After three and a half weeks in hospital, I was released briefly because the doc's thought that they would have had the Tuberculosis under control with standard treatments, but was called back into the lonely little cell on the 18th Jan when some test results showed that my particular strain of TB was "multi-drug resistant", meaning that it was a much more intense treatment program, over a longer period of time. Shitballs.I am an Australian, born and raised, but I had done some travel in South Africa and South America, so it's believed that I picked up the TB somewhere on one of those journeys.
In any case, I have now spent about 60 days in quarantine so far, on my own, and it's likely that I'll be here for another 4+ weeks. To take my mind off the treatment, the loneliness and the situation that I have found myself in, I have been playing around making some songs and some clips for those songs, then putting them up on Youtube. Taking the time to bring my friends and other people a bit of a laugh, has been a great way for me to feel as if I am taking a bad situation and making it somehow positive.
